Canberra City reinforced its credentials for a 2010 top four position with 4 – 1 demolition of Canberra Olympic in Round 2

of the Federation Cup at Hawker Football Centre on Saturday evening.

Although Dom Giampaolo opened the scoring for Olympic in the 15^th. Minute, after City keeper James Ward failed to clear a goal line scramble,

City’s ACT Player of the year, striker Pat Ross-Magee, out-paced Olympic defender Matt Cachia to neatly slot home an equalizer in the 25^th. Minute.

City’s dominance was again clear on 30 minutes when Ross-Magee again confounded the defence to cross to a predatory Simon Gemmell

who powerfully headed past Olympic’s keeper at the far post.

City continued its attack in the second half with goals from another new signing Misko Naumoski and midfielder Adam Dobell.

The final score 4-1 puts City top of group A in the cup competition and the winner of the Robin Waring shield for the second year running.

The Robin Waring shield is played each season between City and a Majura Juniors associated club in memory of Robin Waring who died tragically in 2009.

Many of City’s players were former team mates of Robin.

Robin’s mother, Mary Dalton presented the shield to match day captain James Perry.
